2016 Brother of the Year Award ~ Columbian Lodge

William Penn wrote: “Sense shines with a double luster when it is set in humility. An able yet humble man is a jewel worth a kingdom.”

My Brothers, the 2016 recipient of the Brother of the Year award is a pillar of our Lodge. His pleasant and affable nature and demeanor make him both an easy conversationalist and easy confidant to any with whom he speaks. He is ever ready to assist with whatever advice is sought or task requested of him, by any member of the Lodge.

As Master of this Lodge he led the us through two great years and continued to build a line of (younger) officers behind him that would live up to Columbian standards, standards that he demonstrated by example.

A family man with deep involvement in his local community. His commitment to local youth sports has sometimes meant he has shouldered far more than his share of the work when others were unable. All so hundreds of kids and their parents could enjoy their soccer games with no idea of his behind the scenes effort to make everything run smoothly.

After last year’s installation, I had the privilege to address the Lodge and our guests and in my remarks, I noted that one of the true benefits of our Fraternity is to associate with good men, men who inspire us to be better by the examples they set. This Brother was one of the several men I had in mind when making that observation.

Our Brother frequently empowers others around him to shine and receive recognition. While he receives more joy from the success of others, it is time we honored and recognized the 2016 Brother of the Year, R.W. Callum J.F. Macelan
